Mr.P's Presenter/DJ Profile
If there’s one thing that Mr.P takes very seriously is his music! He’s simply a man that just loves music, [and will do almost anything for it!] having worked in several areas of the industry. He has been DJing since aged 13 and started with school end of term parties but commenced publicly when aged 14 at "The Monsters Club" in Muswell Hill, north London and his claim to fame was Skate Freak at Roller Express where for months, he consistently entertained over 1,000 people every Thursday night and he managed to pull a crowd in excess of 1,700 adults, Easter Thursday 1993! Other venues and club nights to add to the list are The Spot, Phlavours 2 Savour!, Club Zero, The Music Lounge, Salsa Boogie, The Hippodrome, Sunday Singers as well as dozens of other clubs, wine-bars and pubs.
His radio career began on hospital radio, aged 16 on Radio Whittington. Since then, some of the stations he’s worked on are Touch FM, City Radio, BBC Radio London, Kiss FM [New York City], WNK, Rockers FM, Radio St.Lucia, The Wave [St. Lucia], Voice Of Grenada, CBC [Barbados], Soul 24-7, RamJam Radio, Sound Radio, and can be currently heard on Supreme Radio and Unknown FM. Also, having the "hunk" of a voice that he has [swoon ladies!], he tends to utilise this frequently in addition to presenting as he works as a voice-over artist and produces radio commercials, jingles and narrations.
Another musical string to add to his long bow is that of a Recording Engineer, which began at aged 18 at The Basement studio in central London. He had the pleasure of recording and working in the same environment as Juliet Roberts, Soul II Soul, Ruby Turner, Chanté Moore, Earl Lewis Jnr., Joycelyn Brown, Ciyo, TJ Phillips, Ray Simpson, Kym Mazelle, Junior Giscombe, Ray Carless, JT Taylor, Kenny Charles, Helena Paul, and TJ Johnson to name a few.
In addition to all this, Mr.P is a qualified, CRB registered mentor to young children and teenagers at The Breakfast Club in secondary schools and sports academies and runs his own Mentoring Through Music programme and is part of the One Hand Can't Clap organisation. He has also taught and lectured in media, specialising within the area of radio at the College Of North East London and is currently teaching at Thames Valley University.
Mr.P has also sat still [believe it or not!] for a few moments to put his thoughts, opinions and a few facts down on paper as he’s written for Live Listings Magazine, St.Lucia 4 U and London Extra newspaper. He also operates a weekly newsletter. He’d do more in that area, but living up to his true cardinal fire sign, no one has been able to keep him in one place for too long!
Mr.P has a deep love for black music that transpires from the 70’s to current tunes through to Phuture Phlavours encompassing a wide and varied selection of Soul, Funk, Jazz, 80s’, Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop and those all important Smooth Grooves which is reflected in his style of playing whenever he gets near a pair of decks or in a broadcast studio! That’s what you can expect to hear: serious music put across in a not so serious and quite humorous style, so tune in - you won't be disappointed!
